Where to Buy Prawns

The prawn boats arrive at noon so you may want to first enjoy some lunch and good music.  Try the Prawn Boil at the Maritime Centre ( Cow Cafe serving), or grab some lunch at the world famous Rock Cod Cafe, right next door.  Then saunter down to the wharf where we will be selling prawns until at least 5:00 pm .  If  you are in a rush, early bird sales will begin at 10:00 am at Cowichan Bay Seafood.

There are 3 locations to buy live spot prawns:

  1. Off the prawn boats ( noon-5pm)
  2. Fishermen’s wharf ( noon – 5pm)
  3. Cowichan Bay Seafood (10-5pm)

This Year’s Prawn Pricing

Cowichan Bay Seafood always offers the best price for spot prawns. This is their way of saying “thank you” to the community for all your support over the last year.   The 2013 price  is yet to $12.00 / lb.   Cash sales ONLY please at the boat and at the wharf.

How to Transport Prawns

You will receive your live prawns in a plastic bag. It is suggested that you bring with you a plastic pail or bucket preferably with a handle and lid. This makes them easy to carry and there will be no leakage.

Alternately, we will  be selling black zippered, insulated soft walled coolers with the Cowichan Bay Seafood logo for $5.00. These are appropriate for prawn tails (5 lbs) or live prawns ( 2.5 lbs ) . The coolers are also great for picnics, lunches, soft drinks or sandwiches.  A great price!

We also offer a prawn cleaning service at all locations. So, if you want the heads taken off, we’ll do that for $1 per lb. Buy a cooler and we’ll pack them in ice, zip them up  and send you on your way to enjoy the many culinary delights and festivities in the Village.

Lobsters are the mobsters
Of shell fish society.
On the ocean floor,
They rule the store,
And the prawns better come along quietly.
